Redcar High Street is set to receive a facelift thanks to investment from the Redcar Town Deal. Residents and visitors will soon see improvements to the area such as new street furniture, additional landscaping with plants and trees, improved lighting and more.

The appearance of the High Street will be improved, creating uncluttered spaces for events and activities. As part of the design, we will be celebrating Redcar's history and culture by introducing new public art work.

The aim is to help create a vibrant town centre which supports local independent businesses, jobs and encourages further investment. The location of the public realm improvements can be found on the plan in the Photos section of this webpage.

    Dear Vera,

    Thank you for your comments.

The trees to be introduced as part of the Town Centre Transformation works will be part of a regular maintenance schedule to ensure long-term growth and health. Additionally, the trees will be situated within planters and are of a species that are easy to maintain.

The trees, along with other elements, will help to brighten and add vibrancy to Redcar High Street.

    Kind Regards,

Thank you for getting in touch.

As part of our Rediscover Redcar programme, we will soon be able to provide potential grant funding support to new and/or existing businesses in Redcar Town Centre. This funding will be utilised to help reduce vacancy rates, as well as improve shopfronts in an effort to improve the offer and look of Redcar Town Centre. For more information, please visit: https://redcarcleveland.uk.engagementhq.com/town-centre-management.

The Town Deal programme is also creating a new leisure offer to attract more people into the town centre, that will in turn support local businesses.

Our Rediscover Redcar team have been working closely with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council departments, including Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), Community Development and Enforcement, as well as with Cleveland Police and local businesses, to look at measures to alleviate crime and ASB in Redcar Town Centre.

If residents or visitors have any crime or ASB to report, then please call 101 or use the COPA app available on Android and Apple digital stores. It is essential that crime and ASB is reported or we will not be able to improve the current position.

Chris asked over 1 year ago

    Dear Chris,

    Thank you for your comments.

One of the long-term objectives of the Town Centre Transformation is to increase year-round footfall, thereby increasing visitor spend in the area and encouraging businesses to invest. This includes new and better paving, trees, street furniture, and lighting, which in turn will also help accommodate more public events, again attracting more visitors to the High Street.

Furthermore, our Rediscover Redcar will soon be rolling out a town centre grant scheme for local businesses (both landlords and tenants) to apply for. This funding may be used, for example, to help make visual improvements to shopfronts and existing commercial premises and encourage businesses to relocate or expand into available town centre units to improve the retail offering.

    Dear Julie,

    Thank you for your question.

Rediscover Redcar will soon be rolling out a High Street grant funding scheme to help attract new businesses to the area. For more information, please visit our Rediscover Redcar unit on West Redcar, just down from Redcar Clock.

Business rates are set by the UK Government Valuation Office, although there is scope to have some local flexibility to apply rate relief. For more information, please visit this webpage: https://redcarcleveland.co.uk/business/start-business-premises/.

    Dear John,

    Thank you for your comments.

The trees introduced as part of Town Centre Transformation will be within moveable containers/planters, therefore there will be no issues with roots or paving.

The Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction, meanwhile, will provide a year-round indoor venue for periods whereby the weather is poor.
