Temporary Road Closure - Chaloner Street North
Share Temporary Road Closure - Chaloner Street North on Facebook Share Temporary Road Closure - Chaloner Street North on Twitter Share Temporary Road Closure - Chaloner Street North on Linkedin Email Temporary Road Closure - Chaloner Street North linkFrom Tuesday 5th May, Chaloner Street will be closed to through traffic to allow essential improvement works to take place as part of the Guisborough Town Centre Improvement Works. Measures will be in place to ensure businesses and residents can still access properties throughout the works and you’ll now be seeing signage, site set up and preparation works, including trial holes and changes to allow two way traffic at the southern end of Chaloner Street, while the northern end is closed.
While a section of Chaloner Street (at the junction with Westgate) will be closed to general traffic next month, temporary two way access will be put in place for residents, businesses, and their customers. We expect this arrangement to provide drivers with the opportunity to turn around if they reach Chaloner Street, thereby reducing the likelihood of vehicles travelling illegally down the one way section of Fountain Street.
Refuse collections are currently under review and we will advise if and when any changes are required. For the time being, collections will continue as per the usual arrangements.
Works affecting the section of Chaloner Street to the rear of Fountain Street are not currently programmed until Winter 2026, at which point the road will be temporarily closed. We will work closely with residents and the tyre/car wash businesses to ensure that access and egress for businesses are maintained, and that appropriate measures are put in place to allow residents to move around the area safely.
Shops will remain open as usual, and we’ll do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum. If you have any questions or concerns, representatives from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and Esh will be running a drop in centre at Sunnyfield House from 9am until 4pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays, until the project is complete.
