UPDATE ON WESTGATE AND CHALONER STREET IMPROVEMENTS
Improving Access to the Library
Work starts this week to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to access Guisborough Library.
What’s happening?
✅ A new footpath will separate pedestrians from vehicles for safer access.
✅ The tarmac road will be resurfaced to enhance the look and feel of the approach to the library.
When?
📅 Footpath construction begins later this week.
📅 Road resurfacing will take place early in the new year to avoid disruption during the festive season.
How long will it take?
The initial work will run from 17th November until 19th December and will resume after the Christmas Break to finish the new road surface
Whilst the footpath is being constructed, pedestrian access to the library, as well as deliveries, will remain open throughout, and the library will keep its normal opening hours.
What’s next?
The footpath is just the beginning!
In the New Year, we’ll start transforming Chaloner Street and Westgate with:
✅ Upgraded pavements including a wider pavement on the south side of Westgate
✅ Fresh street furniture to enhance the town’s character
✅ A new pedestrian crossing near New Road for improved access
✅ Feature lighting, including tasteful lighting displays and replacing the tree lights, to create a vibrant atmosphere by night
These changes are all about making Guisborough safer, more accessible, and more vibrant for everyone. In addition, Guisborough Library will be transformed into a more lively hub and a place for the community to meet, learn, play, explore and connect.
