UPDATE ON WESTGATE AND CHALONER STREET IMPROVEMENTS

Recently complete:

Trial Holes:

The trial trenches in Westgate and Chaloner Street are now complete.

All materials have been reinstated after the work.

We’d like to thank you for your patience while these works were carried out.

Tree Works:

Maintenance work on the existing trees along Westgate is now complete. Work included pruning to clear buildings and shop fronts, ensuring the pavements and roads are clear of low hanging branches and removing any dangerous or dead branches which may pose a risk to vehicles and pedestrians. This work will also enhance the visual appearance of Westgate and improve CCTV coverage in the area.

Two trees were in ill health and needed to be removed to ensure safety. These trees will be replaced at the appropriate time.

As part of recent tree maintenance works along Westgate, we had to remove both working and non-working lights wrapped around the trees. Many of the lights were damaged and no longer fit for use. These will be replaced next year with brand new classic warm white lights, ready for Christmas 2026.

Although the tree lights won’t be in place this year, Westgate will still be dressed for the festive season with a Christmas tree and column lighting on the streetlamps.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

What’s Next?

Designs and timescales are being finalised for the improvements around Westgate & Chaloner Street with further announcements to follow in due course.
