EXCITING IMPROVEMENTS COMING TO CHAPEL BECK PARK

We’re pleased to share that works by BCE Northern Ltd are due to start on Monday 11th May. The upcoming improvement works to Chapel Beck Park have been designed to create a more welcoming and accessible green space for residents and visitors, which include:

✅ Construction of a wider, fully accessible footpath complimented by modern lighting to improve safety and encourage evening use for walking, jogging and recreation activities

✅ Clearance and de-silting works to the Chapel Beck watercourse itself to restore natural flow and improve the park’s ecological health

✅ Installation of new seating areas to offer rest spots and additional tree-planting aimed at increasing greenery, providing shade and supporting local biodiversity

These upgrades will create a vibrant, inviting park that’s perfect for walking, relaxing and connecting with nature.

Don't forget that you can call in and see a member of the project team at Sunnyfield House on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am until 4pm for the duration of the works.

DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED

Over the summer of 2025, critical improvements to the drainage infrastructure at Stumps Cross culvert were completed, addressing longstanding flooding issues in the area. It was vital that these works were carried out ahead of the wider enhancement scheme planned for the park.

A crucial phase of flood-prevention work at the Stumps Cross culvert in Chapel Beck Park was successfully completed over the summer months, putting an end to years of persistent flooding that had plagued the low-lying sections of the park and nearby residential streets.

The six-week project focused on upgrading and enlarging the ageing drainage infrastructure beneath the culvert, which carries the Chapel Beck watercourse under a key access road. Engineers replaced sections of the original pipework, installed higher-capacity gratings, and reinforced the surrounding channel to dramatically improve water flow during heavy rainfall.

Since completion in late July, the revamped culvert has already been put to the test by a series of intense autumn downpours and early-winter storms. Residents and park users have reported a marked difference, with standing water clearing rapidly and previously flood-prone paths remaining dry and usable.

The successful drainage upgrade has now cleared the way for the main phase of Chapel Beck Park’s transformation – including the new wide-lit footpath, biodiversity planting and watercourse clearance works. Contractors are expected to mobilise on site early in the new year, with the full park improvement programme scheduled for completion by late 2026.
