Will the footpath through the park be widened?

    Yes. The existing footpath running east to west through the park, from New Road to Hutton Lane, will be widened to 3 metres. Modern street lighting will also be installed along the full length of the widened footpath.

    Will the footpath form part of the Active Travel route?

    Yes. This footpath will form part of the Guisborough Active Travel Route and will be designed as a shared-use path for both pedestrians and cyclists.

    Where will the additional street lighting be installed?

    Street lighting will be installed along the widened footpath only (from New Road to Hutton Lane). The lighting has been carefully selected to provide safe and functional illumination while minimising any ecological impact on the park environment.

    Will the beck be cleared of debris and litter?

    Yes. Clearance and de-silting works will be carried out to the Chapel Beck watercourse to restore natural flow and improve the park’s ecological health. This will include the section from New Road to Hutton Lane. Some invasive species (Butterbur) growing along the bankside will also be removed. In addition, minor repair and repointing works will be undertaken to the footbridges where required.

    Will there be any environmental improvements?

    Yes. Additional tree planting and the creation of wildflower areas will be undertaken to support local biodiversity within the park.

    Will the fencing be replaced?

    Where required, sections of the existing wooden birdsmouth fencing along the main widened footpath will be replaced. However, any fencing posts and sections that are in good or new condition will remain in place.

    Will there be any additional seating?

    Yes. New benches and litter bins will be installed along the main widened footpath.

    Who is the contractor for the works?

    BCE Northern Ltd has been appointed as the construction contractor for these works. The site team has already begun setting up on site and has installed protective fencing around trees.
