Station Road Improvements
The Redcar Town Deal Board has recently made some key decisions regarding the projects within the Town Deal programme. Following rising costs, predominantly through inflation, it was recognised that there was a budget shortfall.
In order to ensure the delivery and high standards of key aspects of the overall programme the Town Deal Board have had to consider, and choose, which elements of the works can proceed.
Unfortunately, this means that the improvements to Station Road will now no longer proceed.
The survey and design work that has gone into Station Road will enable work to start at pace should alternative funding be secured.
The savings made by removing the projects identified will support the best possible outcomes for the works on the High Street and the new Culture & Leisure Anchor Attraction.
The Town Deal will continue to develop a package of measures to support businesses within Station Road, and address crime and anti-social behaviour within the area. A CCTV camera is currently being installed at the Station Road / Queen Street junction as part of these measures.

john.mbell asked 10 months agoDear John,
Thank you for getting in touch.
Projects of this scale require significant levels of development work before costs can be obtained from contractors. This work includes the development of business cases to obtain the funding, extensive survey work, the development of construction plans, obtaining planning permission and engagement with local businesses and residents. It is a lengthy process to ensure that the outcome is beneficial to Redcar. Unfortunately, the Town Deal projects, like many recent construction schemes, are not immune to the impact of inflation.

Redcar asked 11 months agoDear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your question.
The new trees will be contained within planters; there will be no impact on underground services or parking.
Whilst some parking spaces will be relocated, the number of parking spaces will slightly increase overall.

Share While I agree with Having some greenery at the rail station. Widening the pavement and planting trees will seriously restrict the width of the road There is hardly enough room at present in the width of Station Road for cars to pass. There is also not enough resident parking available at present so limiting it to 4 bays will not be sufficient parking. Why are you introducing a loading bay ,while years ago there were lots of little independent shops now there are no shops left now in Station Road, on Facebook Share While I agree with Having some greenery at the rail station. Redcar asked 11 months agoDear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your comments.
The paving on Station Road, from Redcar Railway Station to Queen Street junction, while improved, will not be widened apart from the junctions, where parking is not allowed. The introduction of trees and greenery will not affect this.
The proposed parking changes will see a net gain of parking spaces across Station Road and Redcar Town Centre. There is also Turner Street Car Park nearby, which is easily accessible and within a short walking distance of Station Road. The proposed plans are designed to boost visitor footfall in Redcar via wayfinding and safe pedestrian access.

Share Will the improvement to Station road include up to the rail station? Will moving the taxi ranks from Queen st reduce the barking availability on Station Road? If so this will impact on the Regent Cinema. Having the taxi ranks on Queen st appears to work well. So why change it? Redcar asked over 1 year agoDear Redcar,
Thank you for your question.
The Station Road improvements will lead up and link in with the proposals for the rejuvenation of Redcar Central Station. Two way traffic will be maintained on Station Road.
With regard to parking, there will be a net gain of standard and accessible parking bays across the Town Deal project, including an increase of four standard parking bays across Station Road, on both sides leading towards Millbank Terrace. There will also be two new loading bays for Station Road that are not provided currently. Meanwhile, Queen Street will receive three more accessible bays than there are currently. However, to facilitate improvements – such as widening pavements for pedestrian access and safety – some existing bays, including taxi ranks, will be relocated nearer to the Redcar Railway Station end of Station Road, as well as another relocated close to the junction of Millbank Terrace. Other existing standard and accessible parking bays on the Esplanade will be relocated to Bath Street and Dundas Street.
Best wishes,
Town Deal Project Team
