The original Station Road project formed part of the wider Town Deal programme. Unfortunately, due to financial pressures and increasing project costs, the difficult decision was made not to proceed at that time.

However, the Council has continued to seek additional funding opportunities and has now identified investment that will allow improvements to be made to Station Road and Queen Street.

Yes. We will be holding a public engagement event where residents, businesses and visitors can speak directly with the project team and share their views.

There will also be opportunities to complete a questionnaire online or using a paper copy. Your feedback will help shape the final design and ensure the project reflects local priorities.

The project aims to improve the appearance, accessibility and overall visitor experience of Station Road and Queen Street.

The improvements will help strengthen connections between the recently renovated Redcar Central Station, the town centre, the Regent Cinema and the Esplanade, creating a more attractive and welcoming route for residents and visitors.

We will work closely with businesses throughout the project and keep them informed about construction timescales and planned works.

We will also discuss individual business requirements, including deliveries, access arrangements and customer considerations, to minimise disruption as much as possible while works are taking place.

Current design proposals indicate that parking provision will be maintained and may increase slightly overall, subject to the final design.

Yes. We are aware of concerns regarding vehicle speeds and road safety on Station Road.

We are currently working with the design team to explore options that could help improve safety and create a more comfortable environment for pedestrians and road users.

We recognise that the alleyways connecting to Station Road and Queen Street are an important issue for many residents and businesses.

The works are being funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Maintenance will be the responsibility of the Council. Additional resources have been set aside for additional street cleaning.

Investing in Station Road creates a more attractive, safer and accessible environment that encourages people to visit and spend time locally. This increased footfall supports existing businesses and helps attract new ones, while a well‑maintained and welcoming setting gives property owners more confidence to invest. Enhancements such as improved paving, lighting, planting and seating also strengthen the town’s identity, boost community pride and deliver greener, more sustainable spaces for everyone.

The Council does not have any control over the setting of rents and business rates in Station Road. Business rates are set centrally by the Government. The Council does not own properties on Station Road and in Queen Street, so rents are set by private sector property owners.
