The Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction will enhance the Esplanade and High Street and will provide a space for people to meet, relax and have fun. This new family activity centre and cultural hub is to be located all under one roof.

The project will see the current Goodwins building and the former Marks and Spencer's building demolished and the site redeveloped. New indoor attractions will help Redcar’s visitor economy.

The purpose-built facility will provide a modern, exciting and welcoming space for all, with access to digital technology, information services and learning opportunities. The building will be supported by a regular programme of events, creating an uplifting space that people can benefit from. This will attract people to use the town centre and support local businesses.

The building design has been amended to feature additional windows for visitors to enjoy the coastal views, less cladding and more colour.

An operator will be sought for the family entertainment space and the food and beverage offer.

Lesley Ann asked 2 months ago

    Dear Lesley,

Thank you for getting in touch.

With the first phase of demolition now complete at the M&S and Goodwins site, we have been able undertake additional site investigations on the condition of the surrounding walls, structures and ground conditions. It has been identified that further works are needed, and could not be identified before the demolition of both buildings. Work continues in the background, with additional design work, licenses and Party Wall agreements being required. Construction work will commence again soon once this additional work has concluded.

    Best wishes,

    Adele asked 6 months ago

    Dear Adele,

Thank you for getting in touch.

The design team and architects for the Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction have ensured that accessibility is a key consideration for the facility. This includes the provision of lifts, as well as other accessibility-friendly elements. Additionally, we have worked closely with accessibility groups to ensure that Redcar Town Deal projects are aware of and can facilitate those with additional access needs.

The Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction will look to boost visitor footfall year-round, with its indoor offer. This will help the local visitor economically, alongside our current Town Centre Grant Scheme to help local businesses. You can learn more about this scheme here: https://redcarcleveland.uk.engagementhq.com/town-centre-grant-scheme.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We cannot confirm specific activities until operators are in place, however, it is envisioned that the Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction will provide year-round indoor entertainment as well as serving as an immersive space. There is also scope for cultural events as well as food and drink outlets. We will provide more information on this in future, so please do visit our website again.

With regards to training and further education, please note that the Clean Energy Education Hub at Redcar & Cleveland College, is fully open and currently providing training and qualifications to people from the local area. This was delivered through the same Town Deal funding as the Culture and Leisure Anchor Attraction. The Clean Energy Education Hub has been delivered, in part, to encourage local people to remain within Redcar and Cleveland and utilise newfound skills and training in renewable energy at the nearby Teeswork development, for example. For more information, please visit the Clean Energy Education Hub webpage here: https://redcarcleveland.uk.engagementhq.com/clean-energy-education-hub. Thank you.

    Best wishes,
