King George V Playing Fields are the leisure heart of Guisborough with the leisure centre, swimming pool, bowls club, tennis club and football club all located on this site.
Proposals to improve the play provision at King George V, include a new wheeled sports facility with associated landscaping, natural play and seating features, new lighting and CCTV infrastructure to help deter anti-social behaviour, have been approved with the works due to start in summer 2026.
During spring and summer 2024, the design team hosted a series of engagement and co-design workshops with local groups, students, site users, and drop-in sessions open to anyone eager to share feedback and ideas. These collaborative sessions shaped the proposed design by prioritising community needs and preferences. In September and October 2024, the team held playback consultation sessions to unveil the masterplan design.
This spring, additional workshops with students and young people focused on developing the wheeled sports facility, exploring features and elements potential users wanted to see included within the design.
Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2026.
Once complete, the upgraded facilities are expected to drive higher footfall across the playing fields and promote greater levels of physical activity among residents and visitors alike, delivering wider public health benefits for the Guisborough area.

Share Hi do the plans include a bike track ? Skelton & Brotton have half decent set ups. A skate park is a good idea but a focus on bicycles would be more beneficial as guisborough has great cycling links in my opinion.

Dear David,
Thank you for getting in touch.
Please note that the areas of development, for KGV Playing Fields, within this project plan are intended for community use and open to all.
Plans for the football field adjacent to Guisborough Town FC are not related to this project, therefore we are unable to comment.
Thank you.

Dear Joanna,
Thank you for your question.
We are currently delivering public engagement sessions and collating survey responses before moving onto final designs and procuring a contractor to deliver works. We anticipate that the project will be completed by December 2025. Please check the website for further updates on timescales in the meantime. Thank you.

Share As mentioned, a trim trail would be extremely beneficial. As will the BMX track, stake park and the play areas. More dog waste bins to encourage dog owners to use would be helpful.
Also why are the public potentially losing a huge area of the field to Guisborough Town FC? So the club can use this area of land for a profit making business. It is pubic land. on FacebookShare As mentioned, a trim trail would be extremely beneficial. As will the BMX track, stake park and the play areas. We are unable to comment on Guisborough Town FC’s intention regarding the adjacent football pitch to their stadium, as it is not within scope of KGV Playing Fields plans.
Thank you.

Share I think we should fund for a public, free Astroturf where people can just show up and have fun, we already have a playing field but the goals have no nets and the grass isn’t cut regularly so I think an Astroturf would be a great, long term addition to Guisborough as it wouldn’t need much assistance. on FacebookShare I think we should fund for a public, free Astroturf where people can just show up and have fun, we already have a playing field but the goals have no nets and the grass isn’t cut regularly so I think an Astroturf would be a great, long term addition to Guisborough as it wouldn’t need much assistance. on TwitterShare I think we should fund for a public, free Astroturf where people can just show up and have fun, we already have a playing field but the goals have no nets and the grass isn’t cut regularly so I think an Astroturf would be a great, long term addition to Guisborough as it wouldn’t need much assistance. on LinkedinEmail I think we should fund for a public, free Astroturf where people can just show up and have fun, we already have a playing field but the goals have no nets and the grass isn’t cut regularly so I think an Astroturf would be a great, long term addition to Guisborough as it wouldn’t need much assistance. link
