Work Begins to Remove Defective Planters from Redcar High Street

Work is beginning on the removal of the defective planters from Redcar High Street.

Temporary barriers will be installed this week to create working areas for the removal of the plants and trees. The plants and trees will be carefully relocated, with many being transferred to Locke Park, and other locations.

Once this stage is complete, a secure compound will be installed on the High Street to facilitate the removal of the planters.

Businesses will remain open as usual throughout the works, and we encourage everyone to continue supporting local traders.

Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: "We appreciate everyone's patience while these works are carried out. Public safety remains our priority, and we're pleased that many of the plants and trees will be given a new home in Locke Park."

As previously stated, the removal of the planters is being carried out through the contractual process and will not result in any additional cost to the council or local taxpayers.

We're also preparing to launch a public consultation on what should replace the planters on the High Street. We would like to thank everyone who has already shared their views on replacement planters and seating, and we'll soon be inviting residents and businesses to provide further feedback as part of the consultation.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents, businesses and visitors for their understanding.
