Update on Redcar High Street Planters
You may have seen our recent post highlighting a hairline crack identified in one of the new planters installed as part of the Redcar High Street improvements. At the time, we hoped this would be addressed as part of the routine snagging process.
Following further inspections, similar issues have now been identified in a number of other planters. We have therefore concluded that this is likely to be a design and manufacturing defect rather than an isolated issue.
We are now formally engaging with the manufacturer and, in line with our contractual agreement, have instructed them to rectify the problem. This work will be carried out at no additional cost to council taxpayers and will not be funded through the Redcar Town Deal.
Public safety remains our priority. The affected planters are being regularly monitored and will be securely restrained with straps as a precaution while the contractor works to resolve the issue.
We would like to thank the people of Redcar for their patience and understanding while we take the necessary steps to put this right.
We will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.
Thank you for your contribution!
