Roof Refurbishment Works Complete!

Redcar Central Station’s transformation is full steam ahead with the intricate roof refurbishment now complete.

Robertson Construction North East is restoring the Victorian station to its former glory while repurposing its derelict engine shed into a dynamic new space for @Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

Roofing works on this Grade II listed building included preserving and strengthening its original timber trusses, and installing a new ‘birdcage’ structure along with rooflights to flood the space with natural light. Traditional materials such as slate and brick were retained where possible to maintain its historic aesthetic.

With the roof complete, focus now shifts to groundworks and internal redevelopment. Once finished, the station will provide essential rail facilities while becoming a vibrant retail and leisure hub, featuring shops, bars, restaurants, flexible workspaces and community spaces.
