REDCAR’S seafront properties on Newcomen Terrace are to receive a colourful facelift thanks to Redcar Town Deal funding.
The buildings will be painted in vibrant pastel tones to help to create an attractive, vibrant and welcoming streetscape at the beginning of this key approach into the town centre. The identified improvements will complement the recent investment in projects such as The Regent, Frosty Penguin’s Putting Adventure mini golf course and a play park on Coatham seafront.
The facades of the building will be redecorated in contrasting colours, while the rainwater goods – such as guttering and pipes – will all be replaced. Repairs to the render and stonework will also be made to properties which require them.
The properties are all four-storey terraces, believed to be around 135 years old, in a style typical of the late Victorian period. In total, 18 properties will be improved.

“Local residents and businesses have told us the importance of making a positive first impression when welcoming visitors to Redcar, especially around the Northern Quarter and the new cinema.
“With agreement from the tenants and property owners on Newcomen Terrace, who chose the colours, Redcar Town Deal are therefore delighted to fund the cost of this facelift, which we understand has already been warmly by followers of the Redcar Blog page on Facebook.
“This, along with other Town Deal projects, will result in a positive uplift in civic pride for the town, and we hope will support the wider plan to attract new businesses to open and people to move here.
“Whilst we sadly don’t have the money to fund the facelift of all properties, we will do our best to share the results of projects like this with central Government to try and secure future funding should an opportunity arise.”
Councillor Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said:
“This scheme is already causing excitement and we’ve had people saying it reminds them of the children’s TV show, Balamory which is lovely! It’s fun, but there is a very serious side to this simple, relatively cost-effective idea. Taken together with other major investment projects for Redcar now coming together, it could really help attract visitors to the seafront.”
