Eston Recreation Ground is the primary green space and leisure heart of Greater Eston along with the leisure centre, soon to be built new swimming pool, and multi-sports facility all located close together.

Improvements to the play provision at Eston Recreation Ground are to be delivered as part of Greater Eston Levelling Up, along with landscaping enhancements which will see new trees and hedges planted. This project will also include a new skate park and natural play features such as dipping ponds and boardwalks, helping to promote outdoor activity. Additional lighting and CCTV, meanwhile, will help to deter anti-social behaviour.

This exciting development will ultimately increase the usage of Eston Recreational Ground and encourage physical activity to provide health and wellbeing benefits to local residents and visitors.

When and why was part of Eston Recreation Ground sold to Middlesbrough Football Club. Always thought the Rec. belonged to the people of South Bank.

Alan H. asked 6 months ago

    Dear Alan,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

The area of Eston Recreation Ground that Middlesbrough Football Club currently occupy is done so under a lease agreement; Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council still own the freehold interest in the site.

    Thank you.

    Best wishes,

    Dear Natalie,

Thank you for getting in touch.

As with other schemes of this nature, we are working closely with our Neighbourhoods department to ensure that maintenance of Eston Recreation Ground is factored into an updated schedule, once works are completed. We are also in regular contact with local stakeholders, and will include Outwood Academy as part of this process, to ensure we can help deter anti-social behaviour and litter in coordination with the school.

As for the design of Eston Recreation Ground – we are happy to confirm that Southern Green, our appointed contractor for this project, have substantial experience of delivering rejuvenated parks and green spaces nationally, and will therefore be exploring all options to mitigate local concerns.

Please regularly check the Eston Recreation webpage for further updates on designs and progress, as well as upcoming public consultation sessions. We note that you've been asked to be involved with future discussions regarding this and other Greater Eston projects - please rest assured that we will be holding upcoming open consultation sessions which will be publicised on council websites and social media, where your thoughts on designs would be welcomed. Thank you.

    Best wishes,

Will improved drainage be part of this project? Some of those fields get flooded and muddy.

Marie W asked 9 months ago

    Hi Marie

We don’t have sufficient funding to address all the flooding issues on the Recreation site, however, we will be including drainage where we put in new facilities. We know there are some blocked drains on the site and we are looking into getting those cleared.

Tony Hymas asked 11 months ago

    Hi Tony,

Thank you for your question. Fencing around the whole of Eston Rec is not included within the approved budget.  We will be consulting with local people, schools, and community groups, shortly, regards how best to understand the causes of, manage and/or prevent anti-social behaviour and will be considering how best we can design in elements such as lighting, CCTV and other interventions to help.

    Regards

    Greater Eston Levelling Up Team
