Chapel Beck environmental improvements
This project focuses around the Chapel Beck watercourse from Bakehouse Square to Hutton Lane and key spaces in which it intersects. The proposed environmental improvements aim to increase active usage of and create an attractive recreation space for residents and to act as a focus for visitors to Guisborough.
During spring and summer 2024, the design team hosted a series of engagement and co-design workshops with local groups, students, site users, and drop-in sessions open to anyone eager to share feedback and ideas. These collaborative sessions shaped the proposed design by prioritising community needs and preferences. In September and October 2024, the team held playback consultation sessions to unveil the masterplan design.
The upcoming improvement works to Chapel Beck Park have been designed to create a more welcoming and accessible green space for residents and visitors, which include:
- Installation of new seating areas to offer rest spots and views of the surrounding park landscape
- Tree-planting aimed at increasing greenery, providing shade and supporting local biodiversity
- Construction of a wider, fully accessible footpath complimented by modern lighting to improve safety and encourage evening use for walking, jogging and recreation activities
- Clearance and de-silting works to the Chapel Beck watercourse itself to restore natural flow and improve the park’s ecological health
These upgrades will create a vibrant, inviting park that’s perfect for walking, relaxing and connecting with nature.
Work is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with further details on timelines to be announced shortly.
Over the summer this year, critical improvements to the drainage infrastructure at Stumps Cross culvert were completed, addressing longstanding flooding issues in the area. It was vital that these works were carried out ahead of the wider enhancement scheme planned for the park.
