Town Centre Commercial Grant Scheme
Businesses in Guisborough are benefitting from financial assistance to improve the exterior of their properties.
Shopfront improvement schemes aim to upgrade frontages in line with heritage standards to ultimately improve the environment of Guisborough Town Centre.
Eligible works include windows, doors, facades, and decoration for shop fronts on Westgate, Bakehouse Square, Chaloner street, Chaloner Mews, Market Place, Bow Street or Fountain Street.
There has been a great response to the grants.
So far, five shopfronts have been fully completed, with an additional property with works in progress, and there are another seven properties with works due to begin.
The council is also supporting many more businesses as they apply for quotes from contractors or await planning approval. Due to having received a great deal of interest in the Guisborough Commercial Grant Scheme which was launched in August 2023, we ranked all of the expressions of interests that we received and placed them in priority order based on several factors including the location of the property/business, whether the shop front was compliant with the Guisborough Conservation Management Plan and the general state of disrepair of the shop front. Our priority was to focus on the businesses/properties that ranked highest in the list based on this criteria, rather than a case of first come, first served bases.
We are now at a point where we need to focus on those highest ranked properties and have pauses any other applications.
