The Time & Tide Bell: Consultation: Saltburn

Hello,
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have been given the opportunity to host a Time & Tide Bell by its designer, the internationally renowned sculptor Marcus Vergette.
A consultation period will be undertaken to assess and explore the viability of this proposed project.
This consultation process will take place across January & February 2025.
Consultation will take place with businesses & residents, in a variety of forms, including;
- Digital – via Engagement HQ
- In Person, at Saltburn Library on Fri 24 and Fri 31 January 2025
- Letters
- One to One opportunities for business consultation
- At a public SNAP meeting.
The Time & Tide Bell is approximately 1m high, 1m wide, and is installed at a coastal location at the high tide mark. As the tide sweeps in, the bell will ring.
The ringing of the bell both marks the moment of high tide, and reminds us of the challenges climate change is posing. The rising sea levels caused by climate change will make the pattern of the bell ringing change.
We will absolutely take all views and opinions into consideration, from businesses, people of the town, and users of the beach.
This project is proposed to be at Saltburn, but this is not confirmed.
If the consultation process outline any adverse effects to local businesses or beach users, this will inform the decision making processes.
If the project reaches the next stage, we would look to install the Bell in Saltburn in Summer
All businesses directly affected will be offered an opportunity to talk about the project further, to discuss any concerns, queries, and the suitability of the project moving forward.
You can contact the Redcar Cleveland Cultural Development Team via email, at “events@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk”
Alternatively, a member of the team will at Saltburn Library on Fri 24 and Fri 31 January 2025 (10am - 4pm), if you wanted to talk to in person.
All the best,
Redcar Cleveland Council Cultural Development Team
