High Street Rental Auction – What it means for Redcar & Cleveland
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council are consulting with businesses and premises owners on the recent permissive power known as High Street Rental Auction.
High Street Rental Auctions have been developed by government to help Local Authorities tackle the issue of long-term vacant premises in Town Centres.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have designated, through the Local Plan, Town Centre boundaries for the following five towns:
Redcar
Guisborough
Saltburn
Eston
Loftus
The proposal to designate these areas as Town Centres for the purposes of the above legislation have been developed to assist in the improvement and regeneration of the town centre and shopping areas in the noted towns.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council may seek to exercise the right to pursue a High Street Rental Auction procedure on a commercial property or properties in the future, in-line with government guidance which is documented here: High Street Rental Auctions: Non-statutory guidance - GOV.UK
All properties within the boundaries identified will receive a consultation letter as attached.

Hi - thanks for this, the purpose of the consultation is to consider if the individual boundaries are the right ones. We can tweak each boundary based upon feedback collected. It's noted that there are commercial properties on Dundas Street (East & West) which excluded from the current plan and could be added.

Hi - High Street Rental Auction can only be applied to long-term vacant properties, not properties that are in use by the owner or a tenant.

Hi Emma - High Street Rental Auction is an action to help find suitable tenants for long-term vacant properties so could not be used where a property is already in use.
