GUISBOROUGH ACTIVE TRAVEL UPDATE
The Guisborough Active Travel Route forms part of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s broader regeneration scheme and is funded by the Government’s Regeneration Fund. The project, a joint initiative with Tees Valley Combined Authority, will connect Guisborough and Nunthorpe.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will focus on designing a new active travel route through Guisborough Town Centre towards Nunthorpe. When completed, the fully accessible travel route will deliver a number of benefits to the local community, including:
A safer travel route for children to and from school
Better connections between Guisborough and Nunthorpe, particularly to the train station, providing better onward travel connectivity
Safer junctions and crossings, allowing users to feel confident along the route
An enhanced and better-connected cycle route
A financial boost to the local economy
To date, the local community has been very supportive of the project. In July of this year, we began a period of local engagement to seek the views and opinions of the local community concerning the proposed Active Travel Route.
As part of this engagement period, we hosted a special event to inform people about the proposed works and answer their questions. The response was fantastic, and we have taken the time to review the feedback and follow up on any queries about the proposed route. The You Said We Did engagement summary can be viewed HERE
Based on the responses we received, we decided to review the proposed route. The outcome has resulted in an amendment to the route, specifically a rerouting away from the Lyndale area to Stokesley Road - a decision that was informed as a direct result of our engagement process. The updated Active Travel route can be viewed below.

The Council ran a consultation throughout January 2025 for the local community to review detailed route maps and other materials associated with the project, learn more about the project and how it will benefit them, as well as being able to provide the Council with feedback. The Council and design teams are now analysing this feedback, which will inform our next steps.
